How to Add an IMAP Email Account to Microsoft Outlook Classic

Follow these steps to set up your email account in Microsoft Outlook using IMAP.

Step 1: Open Account Settings

  1. Open Microsoft Outlook Classic.
  2. Click on File in the top-left corner.
  3. Select Account Settings, then choose Manage Profiles.
  4. Click Email Accounts.
  5. Under the Email tab, click New.

Step 2: Enter Your Email Information

  1. Choose Manual setup or additional server types, then click Next.
  2. Select IMAP and click Next.
  3. Enter your details:
    • Your Name: (Enter your name)
    • Email Address: (Enter your full email, e.g., yourname@domain.com)
    • Incoming Mail Server (IMAP): mail.domain.com
    • Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): mail.domain.com
    • Username: (Your full email address)
    • Password: (Your email password)

Step 3: Configure Advanced Settings

  1. Click More Settings.
  2. Go to the Outgoing Server tab and check My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication.
  3. Select Use same settings as my incoming mail server.
  4. Go to the Advanced tab and enter the following:
    • Incoming Server (IMAP): 993 (Use SSL/TLS)
    • Outgoing Server (SMTP): 465 (Use SSL/TLS) OR 587 (Use STARTTLS)
  5. Click OK to save settings.

Step 4: Finish Setup

  1. Click Next to test the settings.
  2. If everything is correct, click Finish.
  3. Your email is now set up in Outlook!
Note: If you experience issues, double-check your email and password, and confirm with your provider that mail.domain.com is correct.
